Dolphin as 1st EV in a 1 car family

Thanks for accepting me in the forum.

A question for long term Dolphin UK owners...

If you only had 1 car in the family would you still have a Dolphin?
I've test driven a few cars and really like the Dolphin for its ride/build quality/infotainment and price, especially a used one < 1 yr old.

Hi there,

I’ve had my BYD Dolphin Comfort version for just over 8 months now, and I’m absolutely delighted with it. Everything — the tech, features, look, comfort, and design — still feels fresh and solid.

I drive regularly between Birmingham (home) and Nottingham (work) every week, and the Dolphin has handled that commute perfectly — smooth, reliable, and efficient. No issues at all so far.

The only small hiccup was at the very beginning when setting up the Android app, which took a bit of time to sort out, but once done, everything has worked flawlessly since.

If I had just one car in the family, I’d definitely still choose the Dolphin — it’s a great balance of efficiency, quality, range, and everyday usability. Before deciding on the Dolphin, I explored and test-drove several other options, but this one really stood out.

One tip: I’d really recommend setting up convenient home charging if possible — it makes day-to-day use effortless.

If it's the one car for your family, then how big is your family? Being a smaller car, if you're planning on having more than 2 kids, then you will, at that point, probably need something bigger.
Also if it's your only car, then you need to be able to charge conveniently. The most convenient option is having a home charger. Do you have one? Or can you organise one? Do you have off-road parking?
I have experience of quite a few EVs and I think the Dolphin is a great option if you want a smaller car that's good quality (and pretty good looking) at an affordable price.
The only thing I don't like about it is the cheap and nasty rear parcel shelf. Otherwise it's fine and if you like it, it's big enough for your family and you can charge it at home, go for it.

Thanks for the reply, family of 3, off road parking and looking at getting a home charger (unsure whether Hypervolt Home 3 Pro or Ohme)?
With Octopus but see quite a lot of complaints of them not meeting install dates so looking at a local installer.

A good idea to get quotes from local electricians. Check that the charger is compatible with Octopus (assuming they are your energy supplier) so they can control it when you're on one of their intelligent tarrifs. I'm with Intelligent Octopus Go. They will need to either control the car or the charger.
